Castor and Pollux Rift
From SSDC, Inc.
This geographical feature was originally intended to be located within the Shadow's Rim sector. It can, however, be located wherever the BM needs it for his group and adventure idea.
These remnants of the Pandulask Storm are called "Twinstorms" due to a strange, yet harmless feature: In the center of each of the twins there exists a totally stable wormhole that ships may enter (even old ones). However, the wormhole only links Castor to Pollux and vice versa, so that the use of this wormhole is not that spectacular (both rifts are only 4 hex (8 parsecs) apart). Furthermore, communication to the other side of the hole has to be established, since only one ship can occupy the hole at the same time ( as pleasurecraft "Furnier" and Warcruiser "Helios" had the misfortune to discover in 2275).
In fixed intervals (every 165 hours) there is some kind of "time distortion" within the hole, leading to most peculiar effects: As Mutzachan scientists revealed, ships seem to appear on one side of the hole before the same ship has entered the hole on the other side. Several experiments are currently being devised as to draw use of this calculable timeshift. Hopes are to permanently "double" ships with the use of the hole, crew, equipment, weapons onboard and all as well to use the effect for the "youngening" of people by continuing travel back and forth through the hole. Rumors indicate that during these time distortions a "gateway" appears within the hole, some kind of "exit lane" in this "worm street". Indeed, missing ships have been theorized to have entered the exit lane and disappeared - without surfacing again anywhere in the known universe.
