Chari'n qua's Shaa

This geographical feature was originally intended to be located within the Shadow's Rim sector. It can, however, be located wherever the BM needs it for his group and adventure idea.

At several places at the edge of the Motaran Rift, this phenomenon can be encountered. Out of the chaos of the Rift a continuing stream of debris drifts lazily into the surrounding sector. This field of debris is called "Chari'n qua's Shaa" (Phentari for "ill luck for the seeker of treasure") or a "Devil's Drain".

Within the debris there exists a high probability to detect "junk" like remains of ships that were destroyed by or that disappeared in Rifts throughout the universe. For this reason, small, highly maneuverable ships crisscross the Drain, in search of proof as to the destiny of missing ships.

The Alliance pays these "Drain Nomads" good money for all the junk they can find. Most Alliance citizens find the thought of people spending their life sifting through the Devil's Drainpipe (literally speaking) unsettling, since the Nomads have developed their own kind of culture and beliefs around their existence - not to speak of the high rate of mutations surfacing within those that sweep the Drain for years. Psychologists theorize that the continuing exposure to the Rift has some unexplored effects on the psyche as well, viewing the Drain Nomads as a "race" in its own right.
