Colonial Reconnaissance Corps: Chapter 8: Equipment

A PRC main vessel is a huge ship as noted earlier, and is constructed in a modular fashion allowing sections to be detached from the main hull and operate independently. Also it carries very substantial firepower. A PRC vessel is not meant to fight another vessel or fleet of warships, but some of them have done so successfully. It's main tactic, if confronted with hostile vessels, is to retreat. If sections are detached that have not been proved to be free from contamination, they will usually be destroyed to keep them from falling into hostile hands.

The main armament of a PRC usually consists of nuclear warheads that can be fired by missile or high velocity railgun. These will be used, if necessary, to prevent detached sections from being captured if they cannot safely be reattached to the main hull. They are also to be used if the cruiser encounters known hostiles that it can attack, such as Arachnid advance outposts. Note that the ships main weapons will, likely, NEVER be under the PCs control and will be manned by Alliance military personnel, hence nukes are allowed on them since they are under military control. Now, the PCs may suggest something (like an Arachnid base) be nuked, of course, but they will in all likelihood never have control over the ships main weapons.

Given the fact that a PRC cruiser is usually meant to run from an enemy force, much of it's weaponry faces rearward and is meant to deter a pursuer. They often carry massive beam cannons and mine racks as secondary weapons. They also have excellent Electronic Warfare abilities.

Also, PRC vessels also carry extensive manufacturing facilities and are able to design and create many 'customized' items meant to deal with the situation at hand. They also carry extensive stockpiles of raw material for such purposes.

The A-Teams will be equipped with virtually anything they need to complete their missions, and can request customized gear if need be. A-teams are usually furnished with hovertech vehicles to carry out initial search missions on as these produce minimum interference with the native environment. However some worlds have conditions which may preclude the use of hovertech systems, in which case other vehicles will be issued. Likewise players will often be armed with laser weapons as they do not contaminate an area with plasma residue or bullet fragments, but other weapons can be issued as needed.

Personal armor is standard, and it will have the very best environmental sealing that the Alliance has to offer. Decontamination systems are another staple and each vehicle will have them. Vehicles and armor WILL have built in 'black box' systems that will record every thing the players do or say and anything that happens to them. Likewise weapons will often have 'gun camera' attachments that record every shot fired and at what the gun was aimed at

Miscellaneous gear, such as animal traps, probes, weather monitoring stations, barb wire fences, force field enclosures, etc. will be provided as a matter of course.
