The war against Earth began long before the Final War. Man's greed led him to poison the air and waters, to destroy the great forests. In his ignorance and pride, he did not realize that he was destroying the very things which made this fragile planet hospitable to him. Even without the final outrage of the War, man was on a doomed course. Then came the bombs, the diseases, and the destruction ... in many ways, the end of everything. But in other ways, paradoxically, it was the saving of mankind. The wars brought death and destruction en masse, but mankind was forced to change. No longer were great clouds of pollution spewed into the air. What many thought of as a dark age was actually a chance for the battered Earth to begin healing. This was where the first of us came into being. Long ago, the Druids were an ancient sect which understood that man is at the mercy of nature, dependent on it to survive. After the war, a recurrent mutation emerged, the one which gave us our small stature. It also gave us the aptitude to shape aspects of nature. The Underground took those with the gift and taught us the two ways of the Druid: the Forest Druids, to heal the shattered lands and make them fruitful again, and the Storm Druids, to defend the cause and, when necessary, destroy those who threaten the land.
