Healer
From SSDC, Inc.
There have always been those who would wage war on their fellow men. Human history is one of conflicts, many for no reason but the senseless joy of slaughter. But there have also always been those who chose the other path, seeking to help others rather than harm them. Names such as Hippocrates, Schweitzer, and Nightingale, we revere and claim as our ancestors, for theirs was our way, the way of the Healer. Today, there is more need for our skills and gifts than ever. The world is full of pestilence, pain, and violence, and much of the Healer's art has been forgotten. Our goals as Healers are threefold. First and foremost, it is our job to heal, to ease the suffering of those in need. Second, we have to teach others as much of our art as we can, so that they can help themselves in the future. Third, we must learn. There is so much that has been forgotten ... and all of it is needed. We have gifts that our forefathers did not, true ... but many of their arts are all but forgotten now. The world is a dangerous place, and there are many who mean us harm, even though we mean them none. The answer to this problem is not clear. Some of us believe that any violence is unacceptable, that it is our duty as Healers to remain passive in the face of violence. Others feel that our mission is too important to let mindless barbarians jeopardize it, and that we should defend ourselves. For now, that choice must be left to each individual Healer's conscience.
