birth
In this world it is difficult enough for one to escape, even harder to get to the surface and resist the corrosive environment, but it is even harder to actually survive and thrive in that environment. The mutation in this area has done just that.
She was a genetically grown being with no memories but those inflicted on her by her masters, who wished to test her abilities and limits. She was capable of absorbing energies but in only limited amounts. Testing had shown that these amounts grew slowly when forced to, by exceeding convertible levels many times. A life of torture, so “they” could find her maximum potential. She couldn’t live with that, but was built with a strong will to survive so that there would be a better chance to succeed with the experiment.
Her abilities where growing and changing still when she managed her escape. Speed and need lead her to the upper surface. The torture, along with her abilities, delayed her knowledge that the surface was so dangerous. By the time she figured it out, there was little time left. The pursuit team was delayed to dawn their armor. While she struggled in misery. What they saw lead them to believe she was finished and they returned and reported her death.
She had gotten far when she realized the danger, but she had that strong will to survive. She headed back to her exit hatch, to get back to safety. She pushed herself harder and harder as the effects of the corrosive environment caused more pain and disorientation. As she headed back she also tried to focus her ability to help her and to understand what was happening to her. She was strong, she managed to get into the hatch. Her eyesight was already gone and she had long lost the ability to cry out, and hearing was fading fast. Back inside came shock, as it only made things worse. She could not see the horror on the faces of the pursuit team as she turned right back around and back out into the corrosive environment.
Seeing the nearly destroyed body was enough to make them realize she was not going to survive the hostile environment. She too didn’t think she would but refused to give in. For a while her fading hearing was filled with a conflagration of chaos. Then for a time all awareness was gone.
She knew not how long she was out, but when she awoke the world was a different place. She could see or/and sense things in a new and strange way, so brilliant, so beautiful! Colors like some collage of masterpieces. Colors that seemed to bring about sounds, each as different and unique as each color, and she could distinguish the subtleties and differences of all of them.
Trying to speak seemed ... wrong. Still she tried, nothing happened or... she did feel something ... something. She discovered that with each sound she tried to make, as with speech, the colors around her changed. She could make no words but she could make sounds, just like she heard, from each color. And to make the sound felt Wonderful! To do so seemed to fill her, somehow. She discovered as she made the sound of a color that the color slowly faded away or changed, creating new sounds. She also found that varying the sounds, changing from one to another, mixing them up in different ways was even better, more spectacular of sight and feel! Certain combinations where better then others, but all were magnificently Overwhelming. Each like a different meal of the most satisfying sorts, but a meal for all the senses.
Lost in ecstacy, she tried to reach out to touch the colors. It brought and even stranger sensation, then waking to a world already so different by sight and sound. Colors moved as she moved, like keeping away from her or stirring a stew. Still it did seem like she was made of some physical mater. She could see the part of herself that reached out, not quite an arm. As she experimented and her perceptions adjusted, she could see ... something more. Like a sparkler in the night, a light, made visible briefly within contact of colors that would stir and change also. This brought new wonders to sight and sound, beautiful, exotic, ever-changing majesty. Through sound and motion in combination with color she was filled or made whole in ways words could not explain or express.
Sleeping was also much different and more relaxing. Maybe part of it was her new found freedom, but there was more. No matter what, she was always comfortable and as if all tension would just dissipate. A kind of oblivion, no dreams, feelings, or thoughts until she waked. Waking was also so different. Waking from oblivion, how does one describe it, does one remember their birth... no, just like one does not remember their previous life, but she did and she would begin to miss the song.
time
In time, the first patrol she saw, was another oddity to her senses. She was reveling in her senses, in her new form and environment. Even lost in her song, but the distinct disturbances were gravely apparent. The patrol had come to investigate the “sounds” they heard. She could ‘see’ them long before they could see her, that was obvious, for once they were in her sight she stopped singing and they paused, then began moving more cautiously.
She could make out many different colors. She could see well the beings in armor. There was something, it was like the armor had its own colors and that it acted like a filter for colors inside it. She simply observed, and remained hidden. Even as memories boiled to the surface of her thoughts, everything they’d ever done to her, as perfectly clear as the colors she could distinguish, she remain watchfulleaving the patrols alone.
One day a lone figure emerged from the airlock. It was in armor and running fast, as quickly pursuers followed. Then something new happened, Shots were fired, bringing with it sounds that were drastically different and deafening! The weapons fire could only be perceived by their wake, as they displaced color and sound creating a horrid wailing of madness. The beam weapons where not as bad as the plasma weapons. Suddenly the lone figures armor was penetrated, a new show, a spray of sparklers displacing color and sound. Then came the worst, death! As the body was finished off ... something... Erupted from about the being. Something Horrifying ... something terrified ... or something that through sound and color expressed these things at the stage of death. More perfect memory of her own suffering. Rage filled her and she could no longer hold back. Blinded by the deafening chaos she attacked the pursuers.
She found that the weapons hurt her as much as they ever did. She found she could interact physically and hurt them. When armor was punctured, sparklers guided the way to the weak points. Still she was forced to flee, vowing to help any who might make their way to the surface.
currently
There are currently only three, but they will fight hard to help none enemy forces. Their abilities allow them to be able to help players exposed to the harmful surface. They could even help provide a shelter on the surface, preventing harmful exposure, by forming around them. With Telepathy one can communicate with them, if players have a telepath. Otherwise the different sounds of the songs can relay general feelings etc...
In time by manipulating sound they will have some kind of speech, in a sense. In time they could continue to reproduce. They feed off of the corrosive, polluted environment, producing oxygen and humidity as a byproduct (future applications have their use... they are not harmed by oxygen, but have feared trying to enter back below).(time will also teach them ways to attack better, through manipulating what they see and hear on a molecular level, the most common being like ‘drawing the molecular energy out of a target’ -Frost-)(Shape Changing would be a useful skill)
(There “other” mutations at other locations on the surface that escaped, but I liked these the most.)
Stone Singers
x3
Appears in: You Want Us To Do WHAT!
Strengths: Immune to much (see SMRs), feeds off of corrosive/toxic environments, produces oxygen, moisture, and offspring from it.
Weaknesses: Is an odd mutation that needs a corrosive/toxic environment to thrive, and can’t really speak.
Description: A Mazian like creature (not so oozy) capable of manifesting a few appendages. Takes on ever-changing appearances when singing (sound no words), which is also feeding. Once ‘she’ has absorbed enough energy ‘she’ reproduces, passing on genetic memory, and being able to communicate with each other by sounds/song. They slowly grow larger as they feed until they reproduce by dividing.
