Episode 1: The Towers

The Letter

You are sitting at your rented flea-ridden hole in the wall you like to call an apartment. You get a letter in the mail. This time, it's not a bill. It's even on good paper. Curious, you hurriedly open it. The letter reads:

Congratulations adventurer! You are among the privileged few to be selected for Survival Warrior - Team Play! This honor is not bestowed upon just anyone. You have a proven record of accomplishments! Please come for your mission briefing at 1 White Lion Entertainment Drive, Suite 4693 at 9:00 A.M., Friday, February 13. The Survival Warrior champions will be greatly rewarded! We will pay 30,000 credits to first round champions, and an additional 40,000 credits and a special gift to final round champions! Be the envy of your neighbors! Be seen and adored around the galaxy! Be a Survival Warrior!

-M. P.

You grimly note how they substitute the word "champions" for "survivors".

The Interview

You show up at the appointed time. The receptionist has you sit in the waiting room for a half hour waiting for M.P. Finally, she allows you in. You enter a large white room, barren except for a large desk, a Phentari in a large chair behind the desk, and bare pads for your seats.

The Phentari greets you. "Welcome. I am Messenisssioussss Phentari. Pleasssse have a ssseat. I sssee that you are sssurprissed to sssee a Phentari at a dessssk job. If you don't do well, you will be the 500th sentient life form I've sssent to their death. There's sssomething to be sssaid for dessk jobssss."

If you could see through her atmospheric processor, you're sure you'd see Messenisous grinning.

"Let me exxplain Team Play. We ssstart with sssixxxteen groupsss of adventurers. We ssset them on a tasssk, and televise the results. The champions of this task will be given from 4-8 weeks to train for the nexxxt tassssk. The nexxxt tasssk will ssstart with all champions from the first round in different locations. Only one team will finish. They are the true champions. All will see their deeds and do them honor. Are you willing to accept this challenge?”

Messenisous hands PC's a contract with the rules.

The PCs must choose a name for their team. All contestants will have a helmet cam installed on their helmet. Battlelords are allowed to keep the camera after filming. Likewise, White Lion Entertainmentall will paint all armor . (They paint the armor well, adding five to charisma until heavily damaged by attack.

The helmet cam is not the standard model. It runs for six hours and broadcasts back to a receiver that White Lion has outside. Due to some miniaturization, it has an encumbrance of only five. (BM's: note that Thissious has no way of tracking the camera’s broadcast.)

All Battlelords accept White Lion's rights to televise results and does not hold White Lion responsible for any injuries incurred therein. While White Lion Entertainment encourages use of extreme firepower to defeat opponents, remove obstacles, or just for fun. Monitoring equipment, such as cameras, may not be targeted. Intentionally destroyed camera equipment will be taken from winnings. There will be absolutely no payment deductions for incidentally destroyed equipment or structural damage. (Note: White Lion determines what is intentional and what is incidental.)

No payment will be given to contestants who do not complete the task. Additional payments may be made at White Lion's discretion for particularly photogenic results.

PC's must decided whether they wish to play. When all characters have signed the contract, the Phentari says: "One more thing. Recruiters are paid for each battlelord they sssign up, and paid additional money for each champion. Sssso try hard. Help me out. I'm on commissssion."

Messenisious has an AK-57 hidden under the desk, covering the PCs at all times.
